Performance Guidelines

Age Range:

Mini - 0 - 4.999

Petite - 5 - 6.999

Junior - 7 - 9.999

Pre-Teen - 10 - 12.999

Teen - 13 - 15.999

Senior - 16 - 19.999

Adult - 20  & Older


DIVISION LEVELS:


Novice: This category is for a recreational, introductory level dancer, learning rhythm, coordination and memorization. ie: Dancer has never competed before. Attempting more challenging dance skills in higher level.

Beginning: This category is for a dancer learning beginning dance moves and attempting dance skills. This category includes but is not limited to: single pirouette, chaine, grand jete or pas de chats, toe touch and variety of kicks. Attempting more challenging dance skills in intermediate level.  


Intermediate:  This category is for a dancer that has polished basic dance moves, learning challenging dance movements/skills executed with fair-good technique, flexibility and working on the fundamentals of audience appeal and showmanship. This category includes but is not limited to: double pirouette, coupe turns, side leaps, grand jete, 2-3 consecutive a la seconde turns and a  variety of leaps. Attempting more challenging dance skills in intermediate plus level.  

Intermediate Plus: This category is for dancers that exhibit efficiency in more advanced dance skills. These dancers are proficient in their display of  showmanship and are comfortable on the stage.  This category includes but is not limited to: triple pirouette, fouettés, a la  secondes, switch leaps, switch tilt and turning leg grab. Attempting more challenging dance skills in Advanced level.  


Advanced: This category is for dancers who have  polished challenging dance movements/skills executed with great  technique, flexibility and artistic expression. This category includes but is not limited to: turns with changing spot, fouettés, triple + turns, switch leaps (tilt, firebird, arabesque), or advanced jumps. 


*We welcome tumbling and acrobatic skills as a complimentary element of any routine. However, if the focus of the routine  is on tumbling and acro movements, the routine should be entered in the Acro Category.


* Gymnastics and Acro Movements are not restricted by any part of the Skill level Regulations. 


* Remember! Teachers and directors are the best resource for routine placement. Reach out to them with any questions or clarification needs.



SHOES AND PROPS:

  • All shoes must be non-marking soles no exceptions
  • Carry on props are permissible but must be used during routine
  • Soloist and teams planning on using props are required to sign a liability waiver prior to taking the floor
  • All props will be checked by a Luxx Dance staff member to verify proper padding/ Felt/ carpet or rubber is in place to prevent damage to facility floors. Any prop not meeting the requirements will not be allowed on floor until padding is installed on prop.

JUDGING 

The judging panel will consist of 3 or more qualified, experienced  judging authorities. Each routine will be evaluated by 3 of the judges for technical ability, choreography, execution, and showmanship.   Judge’s decisions are final.


Dancer's who fail to "show up" at a competition forfeit any refund or credit.

Luxx Dance reserves the right to group contestants of close ages from differing age categories in order to provide a competitive experience as needed. Example:  (9 yr old) to compete against  (10 yr old) when there is no other equitable competition for the 2 contestants in their respective age/skill/genre categories, resulting in no more than one year age difference between the two.  
Luxx Dance reserves the right to combine genres of similar qualities to provide a competitive experience, ie:  Jazz/Character,  Lyrical/Ballet.

Scheduling efforts are made to separate studio classmates when registration numbers allow so. 


REFUNDS 

No Refunds will be issued after payment.

Team Dancer Policy
No credits or refunds will be issued for team dancers once registration has officially closed.

No-Show Policy
Solo, duet, and trio dancers must check in with backstage staff at least 15 minutes before their scheduled performance if they are the first in their section, or at least 3 numbers prior if performing later. Failure to check in at the required time will result in the dancer being marked as a scratch/no-show, forfeiting any awards, prizes, or gifts. No refunds will be given.

To keep the competition running on time, performers will have 15 seconds to take the stage after being announced twice.
